LEICESTER, Mass. – The Becker College field hockey team dropped their season opener to Lasell College by a score of 6-1 on Saturday, as Lasell's Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.), Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) and Megan Horrigan (Wakefield, Mass.) each scored two goals apiece for the Lasers.

Franzik scored her two goals five minutes apart late in the first half to give the Lasers a 2-0 lead. She broke a scoreless tie at the 21:28 mark with her first goal and added the eventual game-winner at 27:05. Flannery converted a goal off a penalty corner a minute and a half later, with junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) assisting, to extend the margin to 3-0.
Becker got on the scoreboard with five minutes left in the first half when Lauren Niemann (Bay Shore, N.Y.) converted her first goal of the season of a penalty corner on assists from Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass.) and Abigail Leahy (Charlton, Mass.).
The Lasers poured it on in the second half, out-shooting the home team 16-5 after the break to finish with a 27-13 margin in shots. Horrigan potted her first goal three minutes into the second half after a redirect from a cross, and added her second tally with 6:25 remaining. Flannery finished off the scoring with her second of the game with 2:22 to play.
