LEICESTER, Mass. --- Senior linebacker Michael Bianco (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport-South Manor) of the Becker College football team was named the Becker Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 4, 2018.
Bianco led the Hawks to their first win of the season on Saturday, a 31-17 victory over visiting University of New England. Playing in the final home game of his storied career, Bianco lined up at running back for the very first time for the Hawks, and he made the most of the opportunity with 180 rushing yards on 24 attempts. Bianco also tallied a touchdown, his first as an offensive player. On defense, the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Football (CCF) Defensive Player of the Year recorded four and a half tackles and one game-clinching interception late in the fourth quarter.
Bianco's 180 rushing yards were the third-most ever in a single game by a Hawk, and were the most by a Becker player since November 15th, 2013 when sophomore Matthew Romasco (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / Port St. Lucie) rushed for 181 yards in a 24-19 victory at Anna Maria College.
As of press time, Bianco, playing in just his second season on the team, ranks fifth all-time in school history in total tackles with 208, and third all-time in assisted tackles with 104. In 2017, he set the school record for total tackles in a season with 119.
The Hawks will complete their 2018 season next Saturday when they travel to Western New England University for a 1:00 p.m. game.
