FRANKLIN, Mass.- Becker College fell to Dean College 25-10 in non-conference football action Saturday afternoon at Dale Lippert Field. The win moves the Bulldogs record to 1-2 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-4.
Dean quarterback Matt Bethel (Miami, Fla.) put the Bulldogs on the board with 23 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 64-yard touchdown run.
The Dean special teams unit would added to their lead when the Hawks muffed two punts in their end zone for a pair of safety's, upping the Bulldogs lead to 11-0.
The Hawks would get on the board as time expired in the first half on a 23-yard field goal from Shane Padeni (Leicester, Mass.).
On the opening kickoff of the second half, Dean's Dequan Brown took the return 93-yards to pay dirt, increasing the Bulldogs lead to 18-3. A Richard Harris two-yard touchdown rush with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter gave Dean a commanding 25-3 lead.
Becker made things interesting late in the third quarter when Victor Penn (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) scampered into the end zone from two-yards out, cutting the Bulldog lead to 25-10. Dean would recover the ensuing on sides kick to hold on for the victory.
Becker receiver Michael Caban (Lawrence, Mass.) led the Hawks offense with six receptions for 79 yards. Ryan Fernandez (Miami, Fla.) hauled in six passes for 77 yards. Fernandez also had a kick return for 50 yards.
Defensively, the Hawks were led by Shane Padeni and Jared Zieman (Bethal, Conn.) with 11 tackles each. Four of Zieman's tackles were for a loss of yardage. Angel Flores (Azusa, Calif.) finished with six tackles and an interception.
The Hawks return action next Saturday, September 30th when they host Rochester University on Homecoming Weekend at 2:00 p.m.
