McMahon Named to 2019 NCAA Division III Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball First Team

LEICESTER, Mass. – Michael McMahon (Canton, Mass.) of the Becker College baseball team has been named to the 2019 NCAA Division III Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball First Team as voted on by College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members as announced by the organization on Thursday.

McMahon is the third Hawk in the history of the Becker College Athletic Program to be recognized with a CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolade.

The junior currently holds a 4.00 cumulative GPA as a Sport Management major.

"Mike is the epitome of a student-athlete," commented head coach Brian Kehew.  "He is outstanding in the classroom, is a hard-working player on the field, and is well known and connected throughout the Becker College community."

The baseball team captain played in a total of 33 games this season. He batted .263 with a .357 on-base percentage, registering 15 runs, 25 hits, six doubles, his first collegiate home run and 16 RBI this season.  

Off the field, McMahon is an outstanding student-leader who has shined in the classroom and throughout the Becker community.  He is the President of Becker's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is also an appointed member of the National SAAC.  As a member of SAAC, McMahon has worked with Special Olympics Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Orlando and has helped run Becker's Annual National Student-Athlete Day Celebration over the past three years.

He has been twice-voted Becker College student of the year – in his freshman and junior years, and was a selected member of Becker's Leaders of Excellence and Athletic Pride group in his sophomore year.  Last year he was the recipient of the Becker College Academic Achievement Award and this year was awarded the Becker College Sports Management Department Aspiring Scholar Award.  

McMahon is a member of three different honors societies: Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Chi, and Chi Alpha Sigma which is the National Student-Athlete honor society.  He has been twice named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Spring All-Academic Team and has earned Dean's List honors every semester as a student.

McMahon is also very active in the community.  He works as an athletic tutor, is a member of both the "Love Your Melon Crew" and Business Clubs on campus.

The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
