Bedell & Shepherd Lead List of Six Hawks With All-NECC Baseball Honors

LEICESTER, Mass. – Six members of the Becker College baseball team were named to the All New England Collegiate Conference Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior designated hitter Niko Bedell (Manorville, N.Y.) earned his second career NECC First Team nod after leading the conference with eight home runs. Bedell batted .318 with 30 RBI and 42 hits. Niko finished his career as Becker's all-time leader in home runs with 20.

Joining Bedell on the NECC First Team was sophomore centerfielder Josiah Shepherd (Providence, R.I.). After Shepherd earned the NECC Rookie of the Year and First Team honors in 2016, there was no sign of a sophomore slump for the Hawks leadoff hitter. The Hawks earned four spots on the New England Collegiate Conference Second Team.

Senior third baseman T.J. Sempkowski (Oceanport, N.J.) gathered his third consecutive All-NECC honor. Sempkowski  batted. 309 after tying Bedell with a team-high 42 hits. T.J. led the Hawks with 23 extra base hits including 14 doubles and seven home runs while driving in a team-best 34 runs. Sempkowski finished his career at Becker 8th all-time with 143 hits.

Senior second baseman Vaibhav Desai (Waltham, Mass.) earned his first All-NECC honor. Desai led the Hawks with a .364 average after smacking a team-best 47 hits including 13 doubles. Desai was fourth on the team with 25 RBI.

Senior pitcher Tyler Wagar (Uxbridge, Mass.) earned his second career All-NECC honor.  Wagar tied teammate Michael Iacovelli (Uxbridge, Mass.) with a team-high four wins. Wagar led the Hawks with 54.1 innings and 43 strikeouts. Wagar finished his career second all-time in wins (16) and strikeouts (150).
