NEW LONDON, Conn.- Mitchell College pounded out 17 hits on their way to a 17-1 victory over Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference baseball action Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Mariners record to 15-6 (5-1 NECC) while the Hawks sink to 9-9 (4-4 NECC).
Eddie Santiago (New London, Conn.) improved to 3-1 on the year after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine Hawks.
The Mitchell offense was led by Kyle Hartenstein (Meriden, Conn.) who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored. Garet Griffin (Moosup, Conn.) chipped in with a 3-for-6 day with two RBI and two runs scored. Tristan Hurley (Mystic, Conn.), Jack Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Steven Gonzalez (Union City, N.J.) added two hits apiece in the victory.
Becker scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh when senior Niko Bedell (Manorville, N.Y.) belted his third homerun of the season.
The Hawks will look to end a four-game losing streak when they travel to Lasell College tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, April 5th when they travel to Amherst College for a 3:30 p.m. tilt with the Lord Jeffs.
